Post-injury from car accident.?

Question:
I was rear-ended the other night. I was going about 15 mph, the other party was traveling 145 and hit me going 125 (that's what the state trooper told me) However I went to ER b/c of neck and back pain. When the doc pushed in on my lower back it hurt & brought tears to my eyes. Well they took x-rays and said I was ok, I would just be sore for about a week. Yesterday I noticed this swelling on my neck so I went to my regular doctor. He said it was a muslce that got pulled outta whack & said anti-inflamatory medicine would work. I also told him my back hurt, he pushed in on same place & it hurt really bad still. He said same thing about my neck, inflamed. I go back for a check up next Thursday but I have noticed since yesterday and today that my lower back hurts the most when I sit down, if I am standing or laying down straight it doesn't hurt. It's like a constant pain when I sit down & I can't seem to get comfortable. Anyone ever experienced same problem? Thank.

Answers:
I think the joint is inflamed. It's probably a good idea to ask for an X-Ray or MRI. There may be some damage to the bone or cartilage. If you need to go see a chiropractor. They will know more about the back pain than a regular family doctor.
Was in a severe car wreck and let me tell you...any severe trauma to the body can take weeks or months to heal. Since you've been to a couple of doctors that told you the same thing I wouldn't worry about. Just give it some time. However, be prepared for a lifetime of nagging pain. Was in a car crash when I was 20 yrs. old. Now am 48 and experience neck and back problems related to the accident.
It might pay to have your pelvis and lower limbs looked at. If the pain is associated with standing up, then it could be an injury to that area as its carrying your weight when you feel the pain. The skeleton is all connected. where there is an injury in one place, there can be pain in another.

The other option is to have the soft tissues of the spinal chord assessed. Soft tissues are basically, muscle, tendon, and ligament that I don't believe shows up in X-Rays. Soft Tissue injuries generally take longer to heal.

In the mean time, try a cold pack at the place of the pain whilst you are resting. Have the cold pack on for a limit of 15 minutes every 4 hours. See if this helps. Hope you feel better.
AS with most injuries, give it 6 weeks(esp. if you are middle age) A young kid heals faster, but you drive a car. so you ain't no kid. 3 weeks should be halfass bearable,.with out any pain killers. Take an aspirin. It will help with the swelling.
