How long does it take for pills to get out of you system?

Question:
I know pot takes around a month, and alcohol takes about 3 days, but how long do pills take to get out of your system?

Answers:
Hi Ashley,
The term for getting medication out of your system is the elimination rate. This is different for all medications. Antibiotics are a good example. Some you take once a day, others up 4 times daily. Dosing is usually related to the half life of the drug or how long it takes to eliminate 50% of the medication. The longer time between doses the longer the half life and hence total ellimination of the drug(pill). Pot is a little different in that it can be stored in fat cells, even when it is elliminated from the blood. So if a person burns up some of those fat cells through diet or exercise, test can be posative up to 6 months after last use. This is usually with heavy users. A good source for determining the half life of a drug is the PDR (The Physicians Desk Reference). The half life will usually be found in the section Pharmacokinetics. I hope this helps.
