Pure science? or still guess work? can they still say they don't know?

Question:
I have read what is out there on-line. But have yet to hear from anyone else that has had any real experience with "STS". I have had debridement through open incision. And cortisone in the sinus tarsi area.( in the name of "sinus tarsi syndrome") But other then a head to toe infection that hospitalized me for 2 weeks. And reduction of some serious popping from the sinus tarsi area. I have yet to be made well. Can all things in regard to the ancle be explained? Or is there some unknown causes for pain that they can not see or detect? I am being sent for yet another 2nd opinion as they ponder fusion as a last resort. Is there still mystery in this science still??

Answers:
Have you been to a rheumatologist? Sometimes rheumatoid arthritis begins in joints of the foot. I would say hold off on the fusion surgery until you have exhausted ALL options and seen as many different docs as you can. Make sure to have all the documentation from each doc and bring that with you to each visit when you see a new doc. Often there are clear signs of something but the pieces of info are scattered in your medical files and you just need someone to connect all the dots to make sense of it. Hope that helps
