Is having knee pain normal after not being able to walk normally for 12 weeks?

Question:
I had ankle surgery in may and have been in a cast for 6 weeks and a walking boot for another 6. i am in my second week of physical therapy. today i did mini-squats and step ups and right now i am having pain in my knee. is this normal for right now?

Answers:
I think you may be having the pain from not using those muscles etc.. for so long. I would take it a little more easy. Normal healing is usually 12 weeks total. And that depends on what your physical fitness level was when you had your surgery. Talk to your Physical therapist about suggestion on what kind of exercise you should be doing. And what might help. If it keeps up. Please return to you doctor and get it checked. When I had my foot and ankle surgery it took me over 3 months to get back to regular exercise.
Hope this helps!
Take care & I hope you mend fast.
