Question:
A friend of mine his mom is coming home from the hospital, she is 76, he wants someone to help him look after her for a couple of hours a day nonthing serious he is just a only child and did not want to put her in a nursing home how much do people charge for that kind of work I am not a nurse or anything i will just help her with her meals and really just sit with her he said he would pay me. How much do i charge??

Answers:
i will suggest, if he is your friend please don't charge do it voluntarily. By doing this you will make happy to Jesus.
She's an old lady!
don't ask for any payment!
Charge what you think the task is worth, without regard to the "going rate." If he wants to pay you that, yay. If he doesn't, oh well.
Friends don't Charge friends
There is a personal care assistance program out there where people actually get paid to look after the eldery and disabled. This is a federal program and you can contact your local welfare department to find out how and where to apply for it. The program is designed to keep those who can still manage out of nursing facilities because it is a lot cheaper to have someone look after them rather than putting them into a facility. Yhe program is operated by medicare and medicaid which is in turn operated by the individual state's welfare departments, so check into it.
If he said he would pay you, ask him how much. If it is worth it to you to sit with her--it doesn't sound like you would be doing anything much, and from your description you are not qualified to--then do it.

Helping with meals and feeding someone comes under the heading of "homemaker." It depends on the area where you live, but in my area, that goes for about $5 an hour, tops--if you do light housekeeping, laundry, the dishes, and spend time talking to her, maybe playing cards with her, etc.

If all you are doing is sitting with her and giving her a meal or two, that doesn't sound like it really qualifies for pay--whatever he is willing to offer is probably more than the work merits.
