Does anyone have any ideas on how to take tablets/pills?

Question:
Doctors have prescribed me with tablets/pills to take and I can never take them because I am afraid. They go in my mouth and I drink the water but it never seems to go down does any one have any ideas because i need to learn!

Answers:
The best thing to do is to realize they are smaller than other things you swallow, like food.

Take a drink of water first to wet your mouth and throat, so the pills go down smoother.

Then take about a half a swallow of water, but hold it and don't swallow, and dump the pills into your upturned mouth (don't want that water down your shirt!).

Close your mouth and as you are putting your head back in the normal face forward position, swallow.

Start with just one pill at a time with this method--it is likely you will not even feel it, only that you are swallowing water.

Once you have some success, you will stop worrying about will the pill get stuck or whatever, and that will make the whole process easier.
Crush the tablet and put it in your food
Why not ask the Dr. to give it to you in liquid form, then you just take a spoonful.
If they are normal tablets (ie not plastic coated) then you could crush them between two spoons and mix with a little milk - that should help them go down easier.

If they are the coated ones - then all you could do is take larger mouthfulls of water. If you drink some water first to make your throat wet it should help a little.
I had this problem with my youngest son. You can crush the tablet and put it into a spoonful of applesauce or pudding and take it. Our doctor even told my daughter one time to practice by swallowing M & M's. Good luck.
maybe use less water.
tilt ya head back.

i had the same problem.
my friend told me to practice on skittles.
it did help me.
occasionally i do have trouble downing the big pills.
I have the same problem but find if I drink from a bottle of water rather than a glass it helps.
Take them with water when you are really really really thirsty. You won't even notice you've swallowed them.
Actually crushing the tablet and putting it in ice cream is one way we give medication to pts. who can't swallow pills so whoever gave the first user a bad rating is wrong.
put the tab in the back of your mouth and as you drink the water the tabs will go with or makeit fine abd drink it as a powder
Sometimes if you drag the pills or tablets through a little butter
then swallow with a hot drink that works.
Otherwise crush the tablets and mix with a little jam and just spoon it down...Good Luck.
you have never taken a pill in your life? you just need to relax, take a sip of water, put your head back a little and put the pill in your mouth and swallow. dont resist, nothing is going to happen. if the pill is too big, ask the doctor or read the information that comes with the medication if its ok to cut the tablets in half. make sure you find out first though!! medication is time released, so alot of the times its NOT ok to crush it or cut it in half. your just going to have to relax and get over your fear...
right to the back of your tongue, then just drink
i find it easier doing it that way
I had this problem forever! When I was in the military my sgt actually made me try tic-tacs. I couldn't even get those down! Eventually I discovered the smooth coated Advil tablets. After some practice and taking a huge gulp of juice with it I could swallow those. Then I found that tablets (circles) are ten times easier than the capsules (rectangular). I always try to buy tablets if they're available. With more practice I've been able to do capsules as well but they are still more unpleasant than tablets. My best piece of advice is to take the biggest gulp of juice you can! Water doesn't work as well for me because it's thin and you can feel the pill through it. Juice, milk, something a little thicker than water slides the pills down easier. Good luck!
I take 7 tablets at a time every day. Just relax and take a big gulp of, juice/water whatever you like and swallow. Don't even think about it and they go down with the liquid. Easy
I have the same problem but i have found that the best technique for me which has never failed is to first choose a drink such as lemonade or coke which is fizzy and take a drink of it to wet your mouth and throat, then put the tablet as far back on your tongue as you can, then drink and just swallow as normal, because the drink is fizzy you cant feel the tablet going down as much, also you need to relax and remember that you swallow bigger clumps of food than the tablet.
Good Luck! xx
Some tablets are ok to take after being crushed but others like slow release or encapsulated must be swallowed whole ,check
with you health consultant first.
