What do you do if you have allergies and are using a cipap machine?

Question:
I have a cipap machine for my sleep apnea and I also had a nasal mask for it. When I got it I forgot to mention that I had allergies and its causing me to breathe out of my mouth. What should I do about this? There a cheaper way of fixing this, because a full face mask would cost me 300 dollers.

Answers:
I have the same porblem, here's what I do: take a benedryl-D every night, and I have an Ionic Breeze in my bedroom--they aren't cheap but other HEPA type air filters require filter replacement & they get pricey after awhile, also, you can try an electrostatic air filter that you put in the air intake of your central heat/ac--if you have that.
My dad had SA and a c-pap. he used nasal spray and then saline...it seemed to help! God bless...I remember what he went through.
You should ask your physician what the best solution for your condition is with regard to your CPAP machine. A phone call will do. I would be cautious of taking answers online about this. I'm sure the doctor who prescribed the machine to you will be happy to answer your question. Hope this helps, and good luck.
i also have a c-pap machine. i also have a nasal mask... i had the same problem, and would wake up w/ a bloody nose EVERY morning. annoying... so i changed my mask, it was still under warranty from my insurance, so i was able to get a new mask for FREE and keep the other mask as well.

i would find out either through your insurance company, or the dr. who prescribed that you wear a c-pap machine.

Good luck!
My husband has a c-pap as well. I give him benadryl when he has allergy symptoms. it really helps.

He used to breathe out of his mouth too but since the air is forced into your nose by the machine, it really isn't an issue.

but if you're really having a problem, just contact the company the issued the c-pap to you. You should be able to switch out the mask at no extra cost. Your insurance pays for all of it. You may need to get a recommendation from your doctor first, but it's just a formality.
Even with a full face mask, you are supposed to breathe through your nose.
My husband uses a full face mask and when his nose gets stuffy it wakes him up.
So..I'm not sure what you can do.
Hope things work out for you. I know when you can't sleep it really makes life difficult.
