Massage question?

As what is TYPICAL of a new, rookie massage therapist.
And this is what angers me. When a new client comes to the chair or table, the MT (Massage Therapist) is suppose to be mindful that not everyone is acclimated to massage from the get-go. It takes many sessions for the body to get use to deep tissue massage.
Because it was your first experience, the MT should have gone very very light and easy on you. As time goes by, the massage can get deeper and take longer. But for a first timer, you are now experiencing some discomfort, which makes many people not return (because they think that ALL massaging is painful).
It took me a year to convince one lady to go back and try massage again. She had such an awful experience that all she could remember was the pain. I had to explain to her that she had a bad session, and to just emphasize to the MT that she needs VERY LIGHT TOUCH for that session. Over time, the body gets use to it, and the massage can go deeper, go longer, and different techniques can be applied.but NOT on the first few sessions!
Please understand that this is what you went through. Please let the Spa know what happened and that you were not pleased with the results. They should honor a free massage to you to make up to you a bad first experience. They need to put it in your client profile notes (Intake form - which I hope they wrote up on you!) that you need a lighter massage.
Good luck. And again, I'm sorry you went thru that. It just wasn't necessary to dig that deeply to still have an effective massage. I pray that no elderly person winds up under that MT's hands - because that would be a crime!

Yes, because the massage worked out muscle knots and usually does cause some minor bruising for a short time...you will be just fine.
oh yeah its normal, happens to me when i go to get one as well. The pain wont last long.Just working out the knots in your body is all.
maybe your skin is just very sensitive. my sister gets that issue sometimes. you dont even have to touch her very hard but she turn red. as far as the sore thing goes, maybe your back just hasnt been put in much use and isnt used to the massage or whatever. i dunno, im not a doctor. lol
If you had a deep tissue massage, it is very normal. The muscles are stretched, kinks worked out - some you didn't even know you had, & if you have never had a massage, it will leave red marks. But, getting a massage regularly can relieve pain from other conditions. One massage can improve your range of motion, & isn't it just a wonderful way to pamper yourself? Do it again, as often as you can. You won't regret it!
NO ITS NOT NORMAL! YOU MAY HAVE BEEN RAPED!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH...
First of all what type of massage did you have, a beauty/Swedish/aromatherapy. They are different, a aromatherapy massage is a lot more gentle than a Swedish. If it was an aromatherapy massage what oils where used, you may be sensitive to the oils used. You could be having an "healing crisis" this normally happens in the first few hours after treatment, but goes away very quickly. Where you given any after care advice, rest, drink plenty of water and do not eat spicy food or drink alcohol and for some oils in aromatherapy do not sunbath or go on a sun bed for 24 hours. So not knowing what type of massage, I would say get in touch with Spa Sydell to see what they say about it. Hope I have helped you.
As a licensed massage therapist I will assure you that it's perfectly normal for the redness. It's like when your face blushes - it's the circulation of the blood and it increases to the massaged surface as a result of the massage. However, the soreness is a result of having the muscles being manipulated - even though YOU didn't feel like you were doing the work (the massage therapist did the work) he or she still worked your muscles like you would if you were work out or exercise. In order to prevent muscle cramps and the muscles from being dehydrated, you need to make sure you drink plenty of water.
