Stitches on heel-going in lake?

Question:
I'm in a cast now because I got surgery on my heel.
i'm getting cast off in about two weeks, and on that day i'm leaving for a camping trip..
can i go into the lake with my stitches?
and if the doctor ends up taking my stitches out on that day is that okay too?
is there something i should cover the area with so it dosent get infected?

thanks!

Answers:
I would clean the wound with peroxide after finishing up in the water. Put some antibiotic cream and a bandage on it and you should be fine. I have heard that lake, stream etc. water can cause a wound to heal slowly.
If you still have the stitches then no you are not suppost to get them wet. If they are taken out check with your doctor before going into a lake that may have bacteria.
These are questions you will have to ask your doctor. No one on here can tell you what the doc will do or if he thinks you can get the wound wet or not.
I would not go into a lake with an injury that is not completely healed, too much bacteria and opportunity to bust some stiches. Ask the Doc for his opinion!
Why are you bothering to ask these questions!

You state you will see your Doctor in 2 weeks time so duh, why not ask him / her ... write them down if necessary
