Does getting popped at the chiropractor hurt?

Question:
I really think I need my back popped back into place. When I look into the mirror while standing, my body's crooked. My right hip is higher than my left and it hurts extremely bad to walk.

I've always been skeptical about chiropractors because they're not doctors. They only go to school for 3 years and they're not allowed to prescribe medicine.

Has anyone been cracked at the chiropractor who can tell me if they really know what the hell they're doing? And if so, does it hurt? Because my back hurts to bad, if some chiropractor did something to make it hurt any worse, I'd either pass out from the pain, or kill the chiropractor

Answers:
I have gone to a chiropractor before and it was great. He first took x-rays to show me my problems, then did some cracking. I had to go twice a week for a month, then once a week, then once a month. What they do is get you to use muscles you haven't used in years to get your posture correct again. I was sore the first couple weeks, but I also felt great. I was having upper back and neck pain and he really helped me. Give it a try. Also, I was very skeptical, as well, before I went. A close friend went first and told me how great he felt, so I tried it and I have no regrets.
Like any profession, some chiropractors are better than others. Ask around for references. It shouldn't hurt at all, and should give you much relief from the pain. Go soon.
No one ever died by going to a chiropractor. A few years ago, the AMA, which HATES chiropractors, had to admit that chiropractic care does work on neck and back pain. I've been to several. There are some that really crack your back, and other who are very gentle. You can call their offices and ask. And yes, I found it to be effective, although I think you should be evaluated by a doctor as well, since it sounds like you have scoliosis. Anyway, it worked for me after a major auto accident, when physical therapy didn't work. I love it. I go when I need to and it's giving me so much relief. Eventually, you might also want to try weight lifting to strengthen your back and abs, so you gain strength and won't hurt. But for right now, chiropractic care is a good choice. Just go!!
It doesn't hurt when the chiropractor pops your back, it actually feels good.
