I have muscle pain in the back of my thigh, no reason for it, it's just there. Any ideas?
Question:
Any ideas? I've done nothing physical to cause this. If I try to lift my leg up in the air as I sit on the bed (leg extended straight) it hurts as soon as I get my foot a little above head level.
It hurts to push on this muscle as well.
No redness, no swelling...not clot related.
Answers:
Probably a hamstring strain. You don't need to do something physical to strain a muscle (usually it is associated with a specific incident, though). If worked with people who just stepped the wrong way or just woke up with the pain. Try icing the area of pain a few times a day. Try light activity and stretching of the hamstrings. Stay away from higher impact activities for now and perhaps take some anti-inflammatory OTC meds like ibuprofen or aleve, if you can handle them.
Sometimes the sciatic nerve which runs deep below the gluteus muscle or your butt gets impinged because a deep muscle called the piriformis is inflamed or putting pressure, if you drive or sit a lot this can add pressure also if you carry any extra weight, to relieve this I suggest ice and rest, getting a massage can really help too.
this happens to me sometimes during sports. I try to stretch it out a lot, and usually after I run about a mile every day for a few days, it goes away. hope this helps
it could be piriformis syndrome... also known as sciatica... anyone can get this ...all that it is is when the piriformis muscle (located deep in your bum) tightens up and squishes down on your sciatic nerve... are you having shooting pains? if so this is probably the issue...
it's no big deal... as a massage therapist i deal with it all the time... basically all that you need is for someone to massage your bum and release that muscle... if you go to a massage therapist and pay around thirty bucks you can get a 30 minute massage... tell them what the problem is and they should be able to release it just fine... good luck!!
Could be your sciatic nerve. Many people suffer pain from this nerve.
