Has anyone had a child that has had a broken forearm, had a rod inserted & then removed? What was the outcome?
Question:
Answers:
Its more common than you think for this to happen. The removal process is not at all like the first surgery. The incision is alot smaller and the recovery time is less than half.
Children usually recover alot faster.
omg! im so sorry for you and your child my son broke his wrist and had a pin put in it it took a really long time to heal but thank god he is fine now... be patient and im sure your child will be just fine
I think the whole pin or rod idea is so terrible. Why in the world would you open the skin (assuming it was a closed fracture) and insert foreign objects into the bone exposing the body to that risk of sepsis? Just cast it unless it is an open fracture. I know you don't get to make that decision for children because the idiotic social service sector treats parents like they are stupid, but for an adult, I would never allow anyone to open the limb if it were broken. How many humans are having issues now because of the arrogant stupidity of surgeons wanting to pin things that are better left intact? The whole idea borders on malpractice.
I am so sorry about your child and the previous poster's son. I pray they are both ok.
Don't listen to the person who posted before...I assume that the bone has properly healed if they removed the rod. If the bone is healed then physical therapy is usually necessary to get back any motion and strength lost. In most cases the outcome is very good if therapy is started quickly to regain any lost motion or strength. If you think that things are not going right then you should seek a second opinion quickly...a hand specialist orthopedic doctor would be best.
