A bone infection is called osteomyolitis. Antibiotics usually take care of the infection, but occasionally won't. In that case, amputation will be the option of last resort.

the person above is right...osteomylitis.one route is long term antibiotics generally 4-8 weeks of IV antibiotics, then another 2 months of oral antibiotics. A lot of complications can occur...i.e C.Diff colitis (google or yahoo this one).
the other route is amputation. Diabetes or Vascular Disease can and will complicate it.
