I have always had trouble falling asleep. I discovered a relaxation technique that sometimes helps. Breath in and out slowly and deeply while at the same time concentrating on your toes, in your mind say "toes relax" to the rhythm of your breathing several times, then move to feet, then calves, then thighs, etc. Usually I'm asleep before I get to stomach or arms. May be the boredom of it, but it usually works.
.
try to meditate. It keeps your mind on what the person is saying and off of yourself and then you relax and finally fall asleep. You can email me if you cant find any meditation music. Good luck to you.
you should take medicine
Its called insomnia. Tell your parents to get you put on ambien, its a pill that helps you sleep at night. For right now, Id take some tylenol pm or something over the counter like that.
have u tried sex?
I've helped a lot of people with that, try:
Melatonin (in MILLIgrams, not micrograms)
Unisom (if that doesn't work)
and there's a relaxation exercise in my blog on:
www.myspace.com/thedavezone
I heard ambien causes a lot of side effects just so you know
my mom usally cant sleep so she uses nightquil or w.e u call it. sometimes i use tylenol but drinking milk and eating turkey makes people tired. make sure ur room is a comfortable temperature and that your pillow is comftorable. (pillow can sometimes make me stay up all nite if its flat or uncomfy>>
Good Luck
i have this problem too at times...you may be thinking too much about stuff at night...either talk to someone, take meds...work out early so your tired..dont lay in bed..only use it to sleep in
good luck
ok your thinking to much when you fall asleep,
clear your mind, do more, exhaust your self, play around for awhole day, non stop exhaust your self hella bad, then wen you fall asleep try notto think, think about ummmm, the bible something boring, then slowly think about sleeping, then just stop thinking
i have the same problem where u just cant fall asleep AT ALL!
counting sheep does NOT work 4 me, but u can try it.
wat i do is close my eyes because even tho ur not asleep, ur body is stil resting. wat my sister does is she makes up a story and just lets it go on and on until she falls asleep. also, u can pray. that always helps anybody and everybody!!
GOOD LUCK
well, that is a problem. i would say try some warm milk or rum. sleeping pills? drowsy medication? have you asked a doctor? you could try waking up really early so you would fall asleep sooner?
You might have to much anxiety or thoughts in you. Try not to think to much when you abt to turn down and read a book. TV, web brousing is not going to help you to sleep. And caffeine in soda may be part of your problem. Cut back on that as well or at least not drinking it 3 hours before bed.
Try to get some medicine . . . I think it's pretty common in teenagers . . . we tend to stay up late and sleep in late.
Kinda the same here, I don't fall asleep until at least 1 A.M. no matter what time I go to bed.
well it might have something to do with the habits youve developed... it is summer .. but if this happens during the school year ive heard that doing other stuff on your bed kinda confuses your mind to the point that it doesnt know if you want to sleep or do your homework or w/e soo even if you dont do that ive also heard if you cant fall asleep your supposed to leave the room and go into another dark room for like 20-30 minutes and just sit there... and then try to sleep again...
or maybe you should just become nocturnal and take naps and stuff during school
Your problem is likely anxiety or maybe that you go to bed without resolving a lot of what happened during the day in your mind. So you end up being restless even if you are physically tired.
Try to take some time before settling into bed and turning out the light to just relax and go over anything that's on your mind. If there's something specific that's bothering you and it can't be resolved right away, then just realize this and tell yourself that worrying about it and not getting any sleep won't do anything to make it better.
Taking medication doesn't solve your problem, it just worsens it by coving it up and so more and more gets added to it without being taken care of.
When you go to bed try to stop thinking of anything and when you find yourself thinking of something again stop thinking, clear your head of everything and soon you will a a sleep, try this it will work!
First of all, I'm not sure why so many people are recommending meds when you are a child...
There's obvious things like avoiding caffeine at night. No long naps during the day. Try not to have a soda or tea after 7. Take a hot relaxing bath. I was told by my doctor, if you go to bed and can't sleep, then get out of bed and read or something until you're tired.
well i have trouble falling asleep too. what i usually do is go on the computer for an hour or two and when im done with that i read as much as i can till my eyes start to flutter, then i try going to bed...this usually works for me...
Here is my advice. DO NOT try alcohol! NyQuil btw contains alcohol. It is true that warm milk and turkey contain natural chemicals that help induce sleepiness. Make sure you are adamant about not ingesting any caffeine. It is found in soda, coffee, chocolate and some teas. Water will help flush any stress hormones you may have that could be keeping you awake. I have always been somewhat of a night owl as well. Something that helped me was keeping a journal. mine was a gratitude journal. I would write down every little thing I could think of that I was thankful for. Sometimes I would write for hours but it put me in a good mood. It got things off my mind. That way I was better able to shut down. Exercise during the day, I promise it works. Mostly though you need to talk to a parent or guardian. You may need to talk to your doctor to rule out more serious problems but it is pretty common in adolescents. They will probably not want to try prescription drugs with you as a first resort. You are still growing and there is a chance of addiction with most sleep aides even over the counter ones. That should be considered a last resort and only if your lack of sleep is interfering with your daily activities.
Don't go to bed until you get sleepy. Try meditating and, believe it or not, thinking some honest-to-goodness prayers can be verrry relaxing and sleep inducing. Don't be concerned about crawling into bed at a set time. Stay active physically to get a good honest tired feeling near day's end. Try to crawl out of bed fairly early in the mornings.
I have the same problem.. I think its just our circadian rhythm being messed up. The circadian rhythm is our bodies natural sleep pattern. Some people even sleep during the day and get up at night commonly reffered to as "night owls." When I can't sleep I put my radio on my fav. radio station and keep it down. Keep it quiet, it calms my mind and I can get some shut eye. If that doesn't work I drink a class of water and put on my eye pillow its a eye covering that has sand in it. I found mine at a beauty spa in Chicago. The sand puts pressure on the eye which is strange to think about but it works.
I've been sleeping only two to three hours at a time all my life. Please don't let them dope you. Some people just have different brain mechanics. They will tell you there is something wrong just to get you on dope and then you will become dependant on the dope. So long as you add up all the sleep time in a 24 hr. period and it adds up to 6-9 hrs. Your fine. Watch your sugar through the day. Soda, candy, gum. Being not an adult, remember kids like to spike each other with stuff. Get your own drinks and food.
The new recommendation psychs have been making are the OTC herb Melatonin. Before starting any new medication, I'd discuss it with your Dr. My son is 10 and takes it, and my nephew 13 and they both fall right asleep from it!
since you are not of age I would suggest having no caffeine and a nice warm bath to relax you before going to bed.
