Has anyone heard of a sleep technologist?
Question:
Answers:
Yes. They work in sleep centers. They would help perform sleep tests, which is where a person is attached to a bunch of electrodes while they sleep and the computer records information. Basically, it'd be like any technologist - type work, just in the field of sleep.
No.
What's that?
Sleep technologists are the ones that set up and monitor people recieving sleep studies. There is a specialised training for that speciality.
There are people in hospitals who work on patients who have sleep problems. Alot of them run tests such as blood and urine tests, CT scans, PET scans, MRI's and whatnot. There are clinics and hospital departments which specialize in sleep disorders. If I had to guess, you may need a background in biology/psychology and neurology in order to persue this type of job...
I think this is one of the people who man the Sleep Disorder Clinics. My brother was tested for sleep apnea and it wasn't the doctor that was doing all the testing. He looks at the data later after the testing is completed.
yes, my mother had a sleep study done a few months ago and the sleep tech was there. Jordan's furniture has sleep techs too, but there they tell you what you should sleep on.
Yup, the field of sleep technology does exist. One of the many things they're called is Polysomnographic Technologists. The help people with a wide variety of sleep disorders. Most of them work at sleep labs, which is where people with sleep problems go to be observed overnight. They examine the patients, set up all sorts of wires and monitoring devices, and analyze the data throughout the night. Because of the nature of the job, they work 10-12 hr shifts throughout the night, and usually only work 3-4 days a week.
