What if I hit my foot into a table and my big toenail fell partway off?

Question:
But the base near the skin at the bottom is still in tact, I only have a small nub of a toenail left and don't know if it will grow back or what?

Answers:
The nail grows from behind the cuticle of the toe, so in all likelyhood it will grow back in to cover the toe. Expect it to take a few months, toenails grow really slowly. It also may look a little wonky, if the nailbed has been damaged. There's nothing you can do to either make it grow back or not, so no point worrying about it. But as long as you didn't damage the matrix behind the cuticle, it most likely will make a return appearance given time. Just wait and see.
dont worry it will grow back =)
yes it will grow back but it takes awhile i hate that it happened to my thumb and theres not much worse than hitting where ur nail used to be on somthing
The rest of the nail may or may not also fall off before a new one grows out.If it doesn't fall off you will have a separation in your toe nail.It will eventually grow out to be one full nail again but may take years. If you want to avoid that go to doctor and have the rest of the nail removed so it grows back all at once.
It will grow back. The nail bed, the part that generates the growth is right at the very bottom, so you're fine.
