Question about sore muscles from marching band camp.. (read details please)?

I play tuba in marching band but I'm skinny and not very athletic so I'm having some difficulty. My muscles in my upper body are extrememly sore and tender.
Mostly from doing push ups from when I screw up a march which I think is bogus. They say "Push ups make you smart" and I think that's crap... I didn't learn how to read by doing push ups but that's another story. Also its not helping me get the march right at all it just pisses me off. Haha. I'm considering quitting because I don't like band enough to go through boot camp...

Anyway the part where the tuba/sousaphone is on my shoulder makes it hurt really bad considering I have a boney shoulder with a little meat.

So basically how do I relieve sore shoulders and upper arms? Also my hands are bruised and maybe a little burnt from push ups on the asphault parking lot that isn't smooth at all is there a quick cure for that? I really need to boost my recovery time so I can be at my best.

Get your parent or guardian to write a note to the person in charge at band camp. The note should say that you are NOT to be singled out for push-ups or legal action will follow. This is abuse. Band camp is for learning music, not pain and punishment. What musician can perform with damaged hands?

You might want to think about quitting band and taking private music lessons. If you're interested in music, you'll learn more faster that way.

For the pain, rest and hot baths and aspirin or acetaminophen (if you have no allergies to those OTC medications) according to the directions on the bottle should help. DON'T slather the parts that hurt with menthol liniment. A teenager recently overdid it with liniment, absorbed too much of it through her skin and was poisoned, and died. She was a high school runner.

Activities are supposed to give teenagers fun things to do and allow them to have interesting experiences, not cause them pain, damage, or death. It sounds like the pressure on you is way out of hand and there are some nutcases running that camp. Again, have your parents take care of this situation. What you have described should not be going on.
