Daily sun protection question?

Question:
I've just moved from Pennsylvania to southern California with my new husband. I have really fair skin and I'm a little worried that the sun is much stronger here than it is back in PA. I want to take care of my skin because I burn so easily, but I don't want to have to put on spf 50 sport strength sunblock every day.

Does anyone know of any sort of lotion that may have sunblock in it or mild sunblock brand that I can use daily and won't make me smelly and greasy all day?

Answers:
There are 2 kinds of sunscreen; chemical and physical. The chemical has ingredients like Parsol, and avobenzone, octinocate, etc. These absorb UV, but as they do, they break down and become less effective and possibly form free radicals at the same time. So make sure they have antioxidants in them as well, and reapply every 2 hrs.

Physical sunblock has zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide. These are good for your skin. This type of sunblock works by reflecting the uv off your skin. Often you will see this marketed for sensitive skin or babies, but sometimes those are still the chemical kinds.

I like to use a combination. I put on a chem one and during the day reapply with physical.
I use Neutragena 30 for sensitive skin. I recommend it.
Dermalogica has a lovely 30 spf body spray that goes on as an oil that soaks into your skin and smells nice.
Also use a good quality mineral make-up. That should give you some 15 - 17 spf as well.
Oil of Olay has a daily moisturizer (facial) with sunscreen. It is light, feels refreshing and smells good. I've used it for years, I'm in my mid 50's and I hardly have a wrinkle. People say I look 10 to 15 years younger than my real age. Don't forget about the rest of you tho, you should use a regular sun block on all exposed areas of your body (go to a major department store that will allow you to try on different brands, usually a big name brand will feel better on the skin. A big brimmed hat wouldn't hurt occasionally either, the top of your head can become sunburned too and alot of people forget about their ears. You are smart to take precautions, I've seen people who have gotten squamous and basal cell carcenoma (skin cancer) on their ears and it has progressed into their brains. They have to start having chunks of their ears removed every so often and then there's no hope once it progresses into the brain. Sorry, I don't mean to sound gruesome here but forewarned is forearmed.
Congrats on your new hubby and home!
