Why do my son's toenails keep splitting?

Question:
It makes no difference how often I cut them, and it's only his two big toes. Currently he has two splits on his left foot, on the one toe, and one split on his other toenail. They split so bad sometimes they go all the way to the top of his nail. I've tried cutting them and putting Polysporin on them to make sure they don't get infected, but of course he wont keep a Band-aid on, as soon as he sees it he's trying to pull it off and he wont stop until he succeeds.
Has anyone had this sort of problem with any of their kids? Or does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help!

MAYBE THERES SOMETING IN THEIR MOUTHS LOL
My son gets them too. I think it's from not being hydrated enough.
it sounds like a fungus but it can also be a sign of a vitamin deficiency. I would take him to the Doc and ask.
Good Luck
Can be a Biotin (one of the B-vitamins) deficiency. Next time you're at his checkup, ask the doctor. He'll know for sure.
see a doctor
