How long do broken ankles usually take to heal? help?

For complete healing of a broken ankle bone it's going to take six months to a year. It's obvious it's a serious break because of the necessity of the screw. I do not think you will be playing basketball this year. You're going to have to go through a lot of physical therapy once the break heals.
Playing basketball in the fall probably will not happen this year. The growth plate, or ephysis, is very important to heal properly, if it does not then the posssibility of the none not growing properly is very real. The healing time depends on several factors, #1 How bad is the fracture. Some fractures that are not completely through the bone usually heal very quickly, likely in the 4-5 week range. It sounds like your fracture is displaced which is why the screw is probably needed. This screw does not speed up the healing process it merely aids in by holfing the bone in the proper position so that the healing can take place. I would venture to say that your type of fracture is propably in the 6-10 week range for healing. Donot rush it or your will injure the ankle more severelt perhaps not being able to play basketball again. Just di what the doctor says and you will be just fine. After the healing is done and the cast comes off you will need several weeks of therapy to get the ankle moving again, remember that it will be immobile for some time and will not be ready to go when tha cast comes off. Good luck.
