I got a tack stuck in my knee today, could it cause serious problems?

The toilet seat looks pretty clean too, but I wouldn't necessarily want that jammed into a wound. *little grin*
Looks can be deceiving, especially when we're talking about microscopic organisms.
First things first. If you're not up to date with your tetanus shots, make an appointment with a healthcare provider asap.
Secondly, puncture wounds are notorious for getting infected, because they cannot be adequately cleaned. The best thing to do with a puncture, is to make the wound bleed, washing out the germs and bacteria and etc. Since it sounds like its a little late for that, keep the area clean, and watch for signs of infection such as swelling, discharge, redness, increase in soreness.
Chances are, it won't cause any serious problems. You're probably a healthy person with a healthy immune system. You can put ice on the injury to help keep the pain and swelling down and/or take some ibuprofin.
Good luck, and don't hesitate to contact your healthcare practicioner if you have any concerns.
Unless the tac was an inch long, you should be alright. Keep it clean and covered with a bandaid. Also, use any antibiotic ointments you have and there shouldn't be any worry.
If you notice a loss of strength/flexibility in the joint, discoloration, and/or the pain doesn't go away in a day or two, then you should make an appointment with your physician.
I hope you are up on your tetanus shots.
Have you had a tetanus shot? Just call up your doctor and see what he/she says.Keep the area clean and covered.
Whatch for infection, but most important: if you haven't had a Tetanus shot in the last 7 years, you really should go get one right away
Well, heres the lovely thing about puncture wounds, its just like an injection. Bacteria live almost everywhere. Clostridium tetani (the tetanus bug) doesn't live specifically on rusty nails as one commonly thinks. It can live anywhere but usually cannot live very long on stainless steel (it doesn't have anything to feed off). It is anaerobic so if you did get it, it will take some time before the signs start to show. Keep an eye on it and if you start having fever, I would consult your doctor.
my advice youi wash it out with soap and water if in a few days it gets red then it might be infected so wash it out with prooxcide. hope your nee feels better
if you have updated tetanus shots over the last 5 years, you dont need a booster shot as the wound is "clean (not grossly contaminated by dirt)", if it has been more than 5 years, get a booster
i'm supposing you cleaned it out a much as physically possible from a puncture wound
if you think the tip of the tack was able to penetrate the bone or the synovial sack of your knee, you may need to see your doctor as osteomyelitis or septic arthritis may set in. you may need to take antibiotics for it. watch out for the following: progressive swelling of your knee with redness or other discoloration, progressive limitation of your knee mobility, fever
GO TO THE DOCTOR ASAP! You don't know where that tack has been! Take rubbing alcohal and dip a Q-tip in it and rub the Q-Tip around the area
You might have to also get a tetanus shot later
just keep a eye on for that thing you get if it was rusty keep it well cleaned up with peroxide etc and maybe get one of those shots ot be safe ((hugs))
