How can I fall asleep instantly?


Question:
I want to know if there is a way to make yourself fall asleep almost instantly, I'm saying like within 1-30 seconds.

I was watching this nigthmare on elm street movie, and yeah I know it sounds stupid, but a character in the movie makes herself fall asleep instantly and then she tells the character [in the dream] that made her knock him out, "See, I have a better way, Doc told me 'Concentration, Meditation'".
So I'm wondering if there's any truth to that. In the scene, she falls asleep instantly. I want to know if there's some sort of meditation technique or something to do that for me. Anyone know?

I'm sure meditation would help but not that much.It takes about 7 to15 min. to fall asleep and then into an REM state. We all have Melatonin in our brains to help us fall asleep.

Not watching scary movies before bedtime will make you fall asleep much faster ;)
um..., i dont really think its possible to do it on command, but check out the term narcolepsy, that might help

I have somewhat the same prob. but i just cant sleep, sometimes just to go to sleep, i imagine something i want to have a dream about, then i think about and close my eyes, breathe, and drift off to DreamLand..lol
ooo! my mom seems to know how to do that! something about emptying you're mind, don't focus on anything and just dose off...i have yet to master it LOL
Do some exercises before you sleep.. that means no shower after the exercises and straight to bed..

lie down with your legs slightly apart and hands facing upwards. concentrate on your breathing and u will be fast asleep

Well a movie is a movie and I don't know about falling asleep in seconds. I do know if you pray and give all your cares to God you will be very relaxed and fall asleep quickly. Seconds no.
Only you can do the magic. If you really want to sleep, no matter what you can make yourself feel sleepy by talking to you. Say, "I have to go to sleep now." Then turn off all the lights and close your eyes.
Stay awake for three days straight while working out continuously? Then collapse on your bed. Aside from that, or drugging yourself up, you only fall asleep instantly when both your mind and body are really tired.
i wouldn't say you can fall asleep instantly in less than one minuet (unless you're really tired).
medication like those sleeping stuff can help, but be careful to get addicted to them, and they need like a few minuetes to kick in.

just try closing your eyes (that's what i do), then i start thinking about random things and how long i will stay awake, and then suddenly in the morning i don't remember the last thing i was thinking about.

or try listening to lecutures or music on your ipod or something.
Do some yoga asana which will benefit you like anything
and i am sure your problem will bw solved
1) Practise one asana i.e SHAVA ASANA ----- this is the asana for relaxation of you body practise it for daily 10 min
within one month or so your problem will be solved

2) While going to sleep read a book (good book) this may help you

3) Practise meditation for 10 min . daily

4) Practise PRANAYAMA
5) Practise breathing exercise

these are the things which makes your mind peaceful
and ultimately when mind is peaceful your body will be relaxed
the finlal result would be better sleep
Step 1 . go to kitchen
step 2. get frying pan
step 3. hit head with pan
=blissful sleep

warning may come with the side effects : brain damage , death , or extreme headache.
Pan to forehead is non-habit forming , but you may want to consult with your local psychologist to see if pan to the forehead is alright for you.
The only way I know how to fall a sleep that fast is to drop a brick on my head...
Just clear your mind and don't think about anything. Everytime you start to think about your day or worry about the next day, just tell yourself not to think about anything and relax your mind. It works for me everytime when I want to fall asleep right away.
Hold your breath for as long as you can, you'll eventually pass out and fall asleep (don't worry, you'll breathe again when you are unconscious).
Excellent idea. I think with practise a person could train themselves to fall to sleep faster and faster. It is a bit like memory tricks, the more you use the trick, the faster you will will learn to fall to sleep. But there is more to it. Some people fall to sleep easier than others ie. brain chemistry, fatigue level, etc. There must be some benefits to falling to sleep faster. Don't you think?
Make sure you are absolutely exhausted, then lay in bed...works for me every time. I do not think there is any truth to this, it just doesn't make sense, if there was, we'd have a cure for Insomnia.
