Bruised fingernail?

Question:
I jammed my finger a couple of weeks ago & now I have a red-purplish spot on my nail. I really don't want to lose my nail. Is it too late to have a doctor drain the blood out from under it?

Answers:
From what I have experienced with jamming my finger into things, the spot will co away. It is going to grow out with your nail and you will see it get higher and higher. Soon enough you can file your nail down and get rid of it. There is no need to have blood drained or anything like that, just be patient and wear polish if you don't like the spot until it goes away. good luck!
Even if it is drained you may still lose the nail. But it will come back!
I fractured my finger and bruised the nail a few years ago. it was so swollen and I didnt want to go to the doctor, so I drained it myself. it did help with the swelling but the pain was still there, so broke down and went to the doctor, they xrayed it and told me it was fractured. The nail eventually came off, and a new one grew back in its place.
Usually it grows out with the nail in time. But there is a risk of infection. If the area remains swollen or the surrounding skin is red and painful, the have a doctor drain it and get a prescription.
Sometimes, they can burn a small hole in the nail and not remove the nail to treat the blood trapped inside.
