Jammed Finger?
Question:
Any tips on what I should do and how to make it heal faster?
Answers:
Your finger could still be broken... I broke mine and it still moved. There's really not too much you can do (not even the ER can do more than splint it). You can try taping it to the finger next to it, or you could purchase a finger splint and some medical tape at your local drug store (talk to the pharmacist, they'll help you find the best one). Just continue to ice it, and take some motrin or tylenol for pain.
If you do choose to splint it, keep the splint on for a few days (take it off to shower, and apply ice, but make sure you sleep in it just incase you bump your finger on the wall or something.)
Sorry as the guy below me said... I forgot to mention elevation, it'll probably be slightly uncomfortable to elevate a finger, but keeping it above your heart should help.
Hope this helps. :-)
The premed major Peatea has got it mostly right although she neglected to mention the simplest and most important form of treatment which is simple elevation (keeping the finger above level of heart).
Much of the pain associated with these types of injury relates to venous congestion.. the blood is pumped efficiently around the body by the heart but because of the nature of crush injuries has difficulty exiting the finger, this leads to a throbbing pain which usually resolves with high elevation.
Another condition associated with this type of injury is a subungual haematoma ... a nail bed laceration where the blood cannot escape and is visible as a black mark under the nail. Depending on the size it may need to be trephined (popped) or if it is very big, the nail will eventually fall off.
In short treatment options:
1. High elevation.
2. Simple analgesia
3. buddy strapping - but not tight.
4. ? xray - the fact that you can move it does not exclude the fact that it can still be broken... your fingers are an integral part of the overall hand dexterity and you need to ensure you end up with full recovery ...difficult to advise on this over internet but probably not a bad idea
well first.i noe what ur going thought bc I've done that a lot. you should put it in ice and then put it in a splint and apply heat...and if it doesn't heal go to the ER and get it x-rayed bc u could have a hairline fractor...and well it tecnally not a broken bone but u need to take care of it like one bc well u have part of ur bone chiped off!!
hope that helps!!
just because you can move it doesnt mean it isnt broken.
i jammed my finger playing basketball & it was bruised & swollen & it hurt but nobody thought it was broken. finally i went to the doctor and it turned out being broken in three places.
just ice it for a while. & tape it, but you should probably go get xrays or something. idk
haha
goodluck

besides the ice, nothing really just needs time for the blood vessels to heal. Hurts when you move it? don't move it! immobilize it with tongue depresser and snugly wound gauze.
keep applying ice to numb and reduce swelling, naproxy sodium is an anti inflamatory, taking some may bring some comfort, see a doc if it doesn't get better. good luck
