I'm a 15 year old, when can I actually take off my body brace? (scoliosis)?

Question:
My doctor says that it depends on when I can take it off. She says that when my body stops growing (I'm 5'6''), then I'll be able to take off my brace. But still, my self-esteem decreases. I can't wear the clothes I usually wear. Plus, I look fat while wearing the brace! How can I enjoy my last few years of teenhood?

Answers:
sweety,, do as the doctor says, or you'll be enjoying a lot less later on.
you will regret it later do as doc says.or do you want THE REST OF YOUR LIFE to not go ok?a few years-even the teens of this and you will be over it!!bare a little longer!!
Yeah that's right, ignore your doctor and ask strangers on teh intarweb about serious medical advice.
You can take a proactive approach to this. You can consult with an endocrinologist to ask for an x-ray on her ankles.

"The majority of linear growth occurs as growth of cartilage at the epiphysis (ends) of the long bones which gradually ossify to form hard bone. The legs compose approximately half of adult human height,"

This means that if much of your ankles are hard bones, then you'll probably stop growing. Of course, the best advice is to wait until your doctor says it's safe enough. A few years of treatment is better than a lifetime of pain.
