How do I know when a mallet finger is healed?

I had to trust what my Dr. told me when I had it...8 wks in a splint. when I took the splint off, i still had a hard time moving the joint, but it didn't flop down any more. It was stiff and still swollen. Stretching out the tendon hurt a little. Take it slow. Took about another month or two for the swelling to go down. A few more months for 75% of the flex ability to return. My finger won't ever be 100%
