Please help me fall asleep easier.?


Question:
I was looking through some of the questions on trying to sleep faster and I saw one thing... people complaining about not being able to fall asleep in 30-50 minutes? I'd be MORE THAN HAPPY to fall asleep that fast. On a good night, I mean really good I fall asleep in 1 hour. My average is probably 2 and a half hours, maybe 3. Sometimes I can go up to 5 hours. Can anyone PLEASE help me. when I try to sleep my mind is just racing with thoughts, and I just can't sleep. And no I will not take sleep aids due to the fact that I could come dependent, and could somehow lose them, and not be able to sleep at all.

Oh, and if it helps I'm 13.

The best advice I have heard is to stop trying to fall asleep. Just get up and read a book, or whatever, and wait for the sleep to come again to you naturally. I can't seem to follow all those rules someone posted above and make rituals, so I share your problem. At least when I stop trying I am not as frustrated.
i can't sleep either! that's why i'm up now at 2:30 in the morning on yahoo! some nights i don't even sleep at all! i am so tired! i have no advice...i just wanted to say i know how you feel! (yawn) so many thoughts just race through my mind.everything seems to! i mean, i think about when i was 3 and 4 and 5 and 10 and 17 and so on...i think about all my mistakes and my loved ones who are gone...and i think of what a loser i am.sleeping just rarely even happens anymore!
Wow, you sound like me. I've had this problem all my life. I'm now 27. On average it takes about 2 hours to fall asleep, sometimes I lay awake all night. And on night's I do fall asleep I wake up every hour. Well, what has helped me, because I have the racing mind problem, I think of myself running through a field and don't think of anything else. I try not to let myself at least. It sets a peaceful setting. Try excising for 30 min. everyday. But not before bedtime, it keeps you wired. I wish you luck. I hope you find an answer. omg im 13 too...ive been up since 11 00 this morning..lol late i know..but i have no idea how to get to sleep! im tired...oh u dont have to read the rest of this cause its not gonna help u go to sleep...actually it might..keep reading..ur getting veeerry sleepppppppppyyyyy! verrrryyyy slllleeeppppyyy..lol just kidding with ya bud! night night..dont let them bed bugs bite bud!
Try this or any combination of these:

1 - Don't exercise within 3 hours of bedtime.
2 - no coffee/pop after 4pm
3 - create a routine before bed
4 - try a warm shower
5 - no tv or computer on or around you
6 - take care of your daily business so it's not bothering you at bedtime
7 - if things are bugging you, jot down a brief note on a scrap-pad next to your bed to put that item in the "parking lot" and out of your mind
8 - if something personally is bugging you, talk to someone, journal about it or fix it. don't talk about it right before bed.
9 - don't allow yourself to sleep in in the morning. Set alarms and FORCE yourself to get up at 6 am or 7am or whatever time you need to be up. Then after a couple nights of this your body will kick into "hey buddy you DO need to be asleep by XX time." and stop the cycle of going to bed late and then oversleeping.
10 - You are smart - do not take sleep aids
11 - if there is anything you don't feel safe about, fix that issue or ask your parents to
12 - turn off phones, cell phones, etc. OR get it out of your room
14 - try lavendar pillow spray.
15 - i got a cool sleep CD from Crowne Plaza hotel :)

There are a lot of things that could be affecting your sleep. Perhaps you need a new matress? That's probably one of the most expensive ways to fix the problem.

When your room is silent you are more likely to start thinking, so put a fan in your room. The fan will create "white noise" which will help to block out any sounds and make it easier to focus on sleeping and not other random thoughts. This has helped me.
