I went to the hospital...cant get stitches?

Question:
I cut my finger on a snow cone machine blade. I was cleaning it out and I eneded up cutting the tip of my middle finger on my right hand. I got a cloth and apply pressure on it to stop the bleeding. I probably bled for at least 20-30 minutes and. Then
the bleeding finally reduced. I applied peroxide and neosporin
on the cut. Well this morning it was looking terrible. So I did go to the hospital but the nurse said it was too long to get it sutured. So she just cleaned it with peroxide for me.

So is there a certain time limit to when you should get stitches?
I dont understand how it was too late.

The cut happened around 11:30pm.
I went to the hospital around 3 in the afternoon the next day.

Answers:
Stitches are supposed to be put in within 8 hours of the injury otherwise the risk of infectiion is far too high. Thats why the hospital never put them on you.
I dont know why they didnt glue or put Streri Strips on it though. Just make sure you keep it absolutelty clean to avoid infection.
12 hours is pretty much the cutoff (pardon the joke)...time limit

hmm thats weird. My friend cut her finger on a piece of glass and then didn't go into the doctor until the next day and got stitches.
