I've had neck pains for almost a year now. How effective will a heating pad or hot water bottle work?

Question:
I've been to a physiotherapist already, and I've been to the doctor's twice and he says it's just the muscles and that I sould use A535. I apply it everyday with a gentle massage.
The pain is really annoying, it goes on through the whole entire day. I just want the pain to go away!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Answers:
Heat pads would be better because they can be applied on the painful section, maybe instead of a physio you should try acupuncture as this releases trapped energy in your body. Or maybe try remedial massage 3 times a week, they are not as " rough " as a physio and they apply a totally different technique. Also another thought, are you even certain its muscle pain it may be that you have a bone out in your neck and you need a chiropractor do adjust your neck bones? I hope this helps and I hope you feel better cos there is nothing worse than neck pain.
Switch between a hot and cold compress.or that is what the docs say. I like to use a heating pad bc it seems to make it feel better and seems to help losen the muscles up. It helps a lot!
Your best bet would probably be to see a good chiropractor, one who does both spinal manipulation and soft tissue treatment. Active Release Technique is a really terrific soft tissue treatment for painful muscles, injuries, chronic conditions etc. Read more about it at www.activerealease.com. The website also has a tab called "Find A Provider" which can help you find a chiropractor in your area who specializes in this technique. It feels like deep massage and works wonders.
Good luck!
