Work late shift -- sleeping habits?
Question:
Answers:
Since I'm part time, my shifts are never predictable--except for the weekends where I have a set shift. Over the summer break from school, I've worked literally every shift they have in this department (and I work in a hospital so they have lots of shifts available). I find when I work a late night shift and I can't fall asleep, I just watch some tv or an episode of a tv show so I can wind down and get into the "lazy" mode that puts me to sleep. Try taking a cool shower too--that usually puts me out. If you're desperate, there's like this "sleepy time" tea or something to that extent that makes you sleepy.
I don't work those crazy hours, but I would suggest that you see your doctor and talk to him/her about sleeping pills. They will help you to fall asleep and stay asleep. You'll be able to set your own schedule with the pills. If you aren't interested in something that may be addictive, try an OTC product like Benadryl or Unisom instead.
wow thats tough. where do you work?? sry i dont have any advice for you
I`ve been working the night shift for 16 years. The bad news is you feel like crap, the good news is you get used to feeling like crap. The best I can tell you is exercise when you get off, take a cool shower, & try to read something not overly interesting while lying in bed. Put dark shades over your windows (my room is black as night), keep the room cool, & get a box fan to drown out noises. The fan is a must, it`s amazing how well that works. good luck.
