I broke 6 ribs in a car accident. How long before I can do a job that requires frequent heavy lifting?

Question:
I worked 75-80 hours a week (3 part time jobs) just to "break even" financially and all three jobs require some lifting. It's only been 3 weeks but I need to work!

Answers:
Oh, man, don't even talk to me about this .I'd say from four to six weeks. Anybody that can give you more encouraging news- good luck.
I had my ribs broken as needed an operational on my lung. Its not nice and can be off from anywhere from a month to 6 months depending on how quick you heal !!
I'd maybe look at doing something different for a while.
At least three months would be a sensible resting period.
I would say around 3-5 months. I crushed some bones in my foot and snapped my ankle in March this year and I was allowed to jump on the 1st of august. I'm allowed to start my gymnastics again and it's all going fine. Just take it easy and get lots of calcium (it helps), just do what the physio says, bones don't take long to heal. Be on the safe side though and DON'T OVER DO IT!. You'll be back to normal soon!

Good luck x

.
the thing with ribs is, they never compleyely heal. if you had another x ray in five years they may still be detached from each other, but there is generally not much strain put on the ribs when lifting. consult your GP but i'd say around 2 months.
