Health effects of no sleep?
Question:
I also don't have any motivation to sleep, if I could I would stay up all day and night, and never sleep! I know, I'm crazy!
I know this is bad, can this cause any sort of cancer? What are the health issues besides lack of concentration or bad skin? How do I find the motivation to sleep?
Answers:
Yes, it CAN infact, cause cancer. And if you eat too much monosodiumglutemate you'll get AIDS!
I dont think it can cause cancer, but it CAN cause
MONO!
staying up for 48 hours is the equivalent of being extremely drunk and not getting sleep of the cells in your body like melatonin don't into enough production
Too many to list. You need sleep. It can cause, among other things, hallucinations and delusions. You are going psycho, quite honestly. For goodness sake, go to bed already.
I had a lot of friends in college (a ton) that tried to sleep deprive themselves and have the grades to prove it. Just go to bed. If you're not tired, it's just because you aren't exercising enough. Get off your chair and exercise, you need it because you NEED your sleep.
Mono is caused by Epstein-Barr virus and not a lack of sleep, just so you know.
A lack of sleep can cause all sorts of problems though, but I'm not sure cancer is one of them. More problems with your circulatory system over time. Though something many people don't know is that some people simply don't need as much sleep as others. Some can sleep 4 hours daily and be as rested as another sleeping for 10.
If you're someone that needs less sleep, the damage will be less, but that's just a thought. One thing you may consider is exercising fairly rigorously in the morning or mid day, and then taking it very easy before when you'd like to go to bed. Should help. And also try on your days off to wake up at the same time you should be in the morning. Eventually your internal clock will follow suit if you do.
Your are right about the bad skin and lack of concentration. But it also messes with your memories. Anything you wanna remember may be erased because your brain cant regenerate over night. Lack of sleep has been shown to lead to heart disease. Also lack of sleep can lead to poor moral decision making. And if your stay up longer than 35 hours your language center in your brain starts to shut down. So I would suggest you get some sleep. Go to a doctor about being motivated to sleep.
You need to exercise, eat nourishing food and meditate. Meditation is great for the body and mind. Just close your eyes when in bed and try to visualise anything (anything - a pencil, an eyebrow, a flame, a face, clouds - just anything that first strikes your mind). Concentrate on the picture that your mind conjures and lurk around it for as long as possible. In the beginning, you will keep loosing it. But with practice, your ability to retain the visual in your mind with closed eyes will improve. Try hard not to allow any thoughts creep into your mind. Just get busy with your imagined visual for as long as you can. You will sleep.
For your own sake, please dont take sleeping pills! Also even if you dont fall asleep at night, just keep your eyes closed and lie in bed. That way, your body and eyes get some rest. Drink lots of water in the day and a glass of warm milk with a tiny pinch of turmeric powder and honey. Go the natural way - the results are not just better, but permanent. Good luck.
You have got to see a specialist at once. The sooner, the better, belive me.
Sllplessness is more dangerous than this cancer you are talking about.
We, people, are too short-sighted to perceive some matters - for one thing: simply because their consequences are not immediate.
To make myself clear, I'll give you an example.
We, by nature, have been created having an upside position: legs down and head up.
For how long can you stand (tolerate) having yourself upside down: legs up and head down? A few minutes.
This is because the consequences are immediate.
The consequences of sleeplessness, even far much more serious, are not immediate. Sleeplessness destroys us.
Go and seek help amd stop taking those bloody pills.

Sleep
well, i think some people just suffer from severe insomnia. i know friends that dont sleep for days.
but ill just throw in my 2 cents on what i do.
usually, ill drink alot of milk 2 hours before i decide to sleep. milk usually calms your nerves so itll help. also, reading puts me to sleep fast. so grab a book, and read a chapter or two, or just until u get sleepy.
i also set my alarm clock about an hour to two hours in advance just to wake up in time for work. and as for classes, i schedule them all at night, so i just sleep in most of the time when i dont have work.
i think health issues would be dark circles under the eyes. bad pigmentation of the skin, lack of brain power and overal just weaker. your body heals when you sleep.
i dont know about motivation to sleep, your body should want to sleep. maybe its the way you think that prevents your body from wanting it. just lay down and relax your mind your body will shutdown and let you sleep
