What could cause extreme lower back pain near tail bone? Please help?

Question:
I have severe lower back pain near my tail bone. It hurts when I bend over, arch my back, sneeze or when I sit up. I do not have a problem when standing or walking. I do not have any fever, numbness or chills associated with the back pain.

Answers:
It's very easy to crack or hurt your tailbone. You may not even realize that you did it. When I was twelve I fell and did not realize that there was a problem. After that, it hurt when I sneezed and hurt when I sat down. I had to buy a big exercise ball to sit on to cushion my hips and tailbone. When I went to the doctor they told me that it looked like my tailbone had been cracked and then healed up wrong. I'm 27 now and I still have these problems once in a while. You may have bruised it also. I would try the exercise ball to give those bones a rest. Even if you didn't hurt your tailbone, it won't hurt to sit on the ball to let your bones and muscles quit hurting in that area. My physical therapist recommended it to me. It works like a charm!
Sounds exactly like what happened when I flew off the back of my skateboard... is it possible you could have injured it somehow? Even just landing hard (on your feet)? I know back injuries can happen to long-jumpers just from the impact, even if they never land on their back.

Mine took about a month and half to feel better - but it was definitely from banging it.

Oh, are you real skinny? My mom has problems with her tail bone, from sitting, because she's tiny - no padding, she says.

Well, good luck! Hope you feel better!

This is a simple inflammation of the coccyx. There is an acupressure point on the web in between the ring & middle finger, closer to the palm side. Press here with a tooth pick you will need to search out this point by gently stimulating the area & you'll find the most sensitive part. Press on it till the pain eases of at that point. Memory Foam Mattress Cover - User Reviews

“I bought a memory foam mattress cover from the internet…not that expensive for a king size bed…my old mattress was hard and I end up having shoulder pains in the morning…but after putting the memory foam mattress cover on my bed, it was like an opposite dimension in my sleeping experience…the shoulder pain was gone and it was so relaxing to lie down on…my mornings have never been so great to wake up on, because it feels like I took a rest for ages…”

Do you think it could be a pinched nerve?
If so, take muscle relaxants, apply heat to warm up the muscle (use a hot water bottle or something), and then do gentle stretches and movements to try to loosen it. You'll probably need to do this process many times over several days before it starts to ease up.
I completely understand your lower back pain. I suffer from chronic pain including lower back pain in my lumbar spine. This is a result of RSD and Fibromyalgia along with other medical conditions. So reading your symptoms and how bad your pain is, I think that you might have something going on that needs to be detected by an MRI. I think you should see a back specialist. I think this because you say you didn't fall and it hurts when you bend over and sneeze. i would have for you to suffer like this any further. I really do hope you will get an appointment with a specialist soon. It is really the best way to find out if there is a pinched nerve, a herniated disc, mild arthritis in your lower spine (as they've told me), or something that can be easily treated.
I sincerely do hope you feel better soon and that you can find some relief from your pain. I hope that I was able to help in some way.
