I have since my daughter was little and because my husband goes to bed before me this way I can see my way around.. I'm just wondering if I would get a better sleep in pitch darkness, or does it matter.

I wouldn't sweat it - you'll probably get less sleep if you whack your shins or stub your toes on something trying to get into bed in the pitch dark.
It doesn't matter. Many people have a night light on.
its best to sleep with regularity. regular sleep and wake times, regular sleep position, regular tempuratures. if you are used to having a nightlight, and you stop using it, you may actually lose sleep over it for a short period of time. keep doing what you are used to! :)
