Starting signs of carpal tunnel syndrome?

Question:
well my right wrist has been hurting badly like every ten minutes, like on the outside. It sorta sends a shooting pain through it. My mom thinks it could be carpal tunnel, because im on the computer alot but what do you think, i dont want to go to the doctor about it right now though...

Answers:
Carpal tunnel hurts on the inside of the wrist. You may just have a tendonitis. Carpal tunnel is easily fixed and prevented. You don't need surgery to cure CT. Simply hold your arm out with the palm up and slowly stretch your fingers backwards (downwards) towards your elbow with the other hand.
Symptoms include pain but usually start out with numb and tingling fingers (particularily when you are sleeping) and weakness in your hands.

Sounds like it could be carpal tunnel. The pain often start to cause tingling in your little finger and wrist. Try wearing a wrist brace while you sleep. It helps a lot. This kind: http://www.healiohealth.com/tek9.asp?pg=... which usually has a metal bar in it so your wrist can't bend while you sleep. Try using it while you type too and see if that helps. Getting a gel bar to rest your wrist on as you type can help prevent it from getting worse.
yeah, pain an numbness is the first symptoms
It's highly unlikely to be CTS. It very rarely occurs in women before menopause - though I am one of the "lucky" ones who have it from the age of 20.

The Signs for CTS are a tingling in your fingers (except pinkie) and problems during the night (waking up with a completely numb arm, tingling that feels like you hit that spot on your elbow).

CTS isn't caused by working on the computer! It means that the tunnel of bones in your wrist (carpal tunnel) is too small and presses down on a nerve. Of course, it can worsen due to muscle build-up (playing an instrument, using the computer a lot), but it isn't caused by that, and if you have never had any problems before then it's unlikely to be CTS.

Of course, there are other conditions that can cause pain in the wrists, and I would spent less time at the computer for a few days; or at least tightly bandage your wrist so that you can't bend/stretch it when typing.

Hope that helps.
