Dislocating Shoulder Problem ...advise please?
Question:
I have been suffering from a dislocating right shoulder for two years now; I have had a brace from the orthotics department at my local hospital, and regular physio therapy which is just pain relief stuff.
My shoulder is so loose that it comes out with minimal movement, and over the last year this has got worse. I have constant pain, even when it hasn't come out for a week (which is the longest ever in ages); even the brace is stopping it now!
I'm told I'm on a waiting list for an op by the consultant I last saw. But that was 4 months ago, and I haven't even had a letter or appointment. Is there anything I can do? I'm usually quite an active person, but I'm turning in to a couch potatoe... And putting on weight...
Answers:
Chase up your appointment. Really lay it on thick about how much pain you are in. One dislocated shoulder a week is too much for anyone to cope with. Moan and moan and they will push you through. You need an operation to tighten he tendons that keep your shoulder in place and possibly screw it in place. Just keep going at them
Contact your doctor again - If you get no answers, find another Dr. - a good orthopedic (bone) specialist. Also, check with the physical therapist - Even if not an MD, what's the opinion?
Don't give up, and don't take silence for an answer. "The squeaky wheel gets oiled".
first of all you need surgery ASAP to help make the joint more stable. Activity wise you can ride a stationary bike. Lifting weights for the lower half or your body is a good idea as well. I am not sure what health insurance you have but you need to try and see and orthopedic doctor. they will probably do x-rays and MRI unless you alreadt have ahd those done. Chances are they will say you need suregery to help your shoulder since you have been doing PT for awhile already. Good luck!
