Surgery of the ankle?

Question:
A few years ago i broke my ankle i have a 11 inch plate and 15 screws. My problems is around the ankle bone has stayed swelled since i had the surgey. Over the past week it hurts so bad and it feels like someone has taken a hammer and hit the bottom of my foot in the heel area.My foot goes to sleep well my whole leg from the knee down and tingles toes are cold and the ankle area is really swelled does anyone know why this is happening after 3 years

Answers:
It is possible for your body to be reacting, even at this late date, to the plate and screws. I have seen cases where the patient does very well with plates and screws and other types of hardware, but then for some reason much later on, the area becomes irritated or inflamed by the hardware.

You may need to have the hardware removed. You most definitely need to be seen by a physician. Try to make an appointment with the same doctor who cared for you in the beginning, as he or she would be more familiar with your case.

Also, this sounds like nerve damage, and that could be extremely dangerous to your health if you ignore it. Please get help soon, and good luck!
