For anyone whos child has been in a hip spica cast due to a broken femur.?

Question:

When the cast finally comes off did your child have to wear a walking cast or some kind off brace? If so for how long? My 4 yr old is less than 3 weeks away from getting her hip spica cast off. The doc never said anything about what happens after the it comes off.

Answers:
Your child will need to rebuild loss muscle tone. Physical therapy will most likely be ordered. I doubt that a brace will be needed. I bet you can't wait to get a regular bath back on schedule! Hope all goes well. B the way, call the doctors office and ask to speak to either the doctor or his or her assistant about what to expect after the cast comes off, it is always best to be prepared.

My son was in one for 6 months. He was 2. We had to retrain him to potty and also to teach him to walk again/ Good LUCK
