Medical Laws?

Question:
I've been having problems w/ my now X-doctor. I went to him for 3 yrs., a family physician and he never really helped me now looking back. He always gave the "come back in 2 weeks". For over a yr. now I've had some chronic pain issues in my shoulder. I've had this for 20+ yrs. It used to hurt only in the colder months but now it hurts everyday. He gave me a shot in my shoulder, of what I don't know. He left a terrible bruise and sent me for x-rays. It took over a month because he never filled out the radiology request right.Crying in pain from shoulder, and now a pinched nerve. He never prescribed anything for pain. I've never had a prescrption med. prob. or any other for that matter. I now have a small pharmicy of anti-inflams. after research found some to be anti-anxiety pills, which made me nervous and shakey. My new doc hasn't received my files after a request . I went to get them myself and was told he wasnt letting them go. Cant he be fined 4 not forwarding files after 30 days?

Answers:
First off, you shouldn't take anything or get a shot of something if you don't know what it is. Also, a pinched nerve cannot be fixed by a primary care doctor, and is usually something that is treated symptomatically anyway. That said, you absolutely have a right to your medical records. There are alot of HIPPA laws now that require extensive paper work to have your files transferred to another office. Have you signed these papers? I would talk to your new doctor or the head administrator of the office at your old doctor about getting those files. Persistance works, but keep in mind that attitude doesn't.
Have you considered alternative medicine? Doctors who don't use drugs or surgery. No offense, but this family physician of yours sounds like a quack to me. A lot of conventional doctors are corrupt. (not all of them) They just write you a script for some possibly dangerous medication which doesn't cure or solve the actual problem. All it does is get rid of the symptom and usually ends up causing more problems in the long run. Sometimes they prescribe you an addictive narcotic that is even worse than the symptom itself!

I encourage you to speak with a licensed physician who doesn't use dangerous drugs or surgery. Find a doctor who actually takes the time to listen to your questions and finds the route cause of your symptoms. If a doctor immediately takes out his prescription pad from his pocket without asking you any questions about your ailments, get out of there!
