Does anyone know about vericose veins?

Question:
I have a vein that runs up my inner thigh and is very puffy, it has been like this for a few years. I am going to the doctor in a couple of weeks, i just wanted to know if anyone has had anything similiar? or what will the doctor do for this, is there anything that will make this vein go back down to normal?

Answers:
Extended standing puts pressure on the varicosity and causes the swelling. The valves in that vein are not working correctly and the blood can enter but doesn't leave properly. Your doctor will probably recommend support stockings which will compress the vein and she might suggest injections called Scherotherapy that makes the vein shrivel up and at this point a secondary healthy vein takes over the transport of blood through this area. There are also laser treatments. She will recommend the best course. Years ago these veins were pulled out or stripped but now they prefer to save them in case you need them for angioplasty etc. Good luck and most medical plans pay for the stockings to a certain percentage.
Also known as varicosities, varicose veins are abnormally widened veins that are swollen, dark and frequently twisted or contorted instead of straight. Varicose veins may occur anywhere but they usually occur in the legs and feet. They may cause swelling (edema), inflammation and a dark color around the ankles.

For some people, the only problem caused by varicose veins is their appearance. For most people, however, varicose veins can cause pain, throbbing or itching. In extreme cases, varicose veins can lead to the development of a leg ulcer
(sore). A leg ulcer demands immediate medical attention to avoid serious medical consequences, such as amputation of the affected limb. Varicose veins also may be a sign of a higher risk of other medical problems in the circulatory system, such as vascular disease.

I have the same thing.they can remove them surgically , but it usually is not covered under your insurance, so it can cost you!
yes the dr can use a laser treatment if needed
There are some procedures which can help remove them or visabley get rid of them. You can either have them surgically removed, or you can see a dermatologist and have them use a saline solution in syringe form to shrink it up. The veins are usally caused by a lack of circulation or too much time on your feet. Hope this Helps!
Doctors may recommend laser procedure to get rid of them. Alternatively, massage will be a remedy but will take some time in order to improve the look of it. Couple with diet, exercise, as they are partly due to sluggish circulations.
There could be a lot of pressure on the vein which is making it come up in this way. My mother was having very bad noise bleeds, due to a a varicose vein in her noise! It's weird but they sent her to surgery a few weeks later and she had to have surgery to burn it so it would stop bleeding. But if it's not in your noise I doubt that will happen to you!
I'm not sure how much you know about vein anatomy but heres a simple explanation:

Veins have valves that prevent backflow of blood. There is no pump (heart) working to bring the deoxynated blood back to the heart. Therefore, muscular movements in the body push this blood back to the heart and these valves make sure that blood flow is one-way.

Vericose veins results when those pumps are not working efficiently and blood pools in the opposite direction of the desired blood flow. This can be caused due to excessive standing.

As for treatment, I am not sure what can be done. The doctor will probably advise you to buy better shoes or flex your thigh whenever possible.
