Sleeping problems...help?

Question:
I always have a hard time getting to sleep and sleeping! I have been to the doctor several times but he won't seem to help me out. I have tried all the simple things he has suggested and the simple drugs. What do I do? I am 17 so I know the doctor won't give me any medication to help. Any tips?

Answers:
1. Don't drink caffeine after noontime, and stop eating by about 6 p.m. . 2. Establish a bedtime ritual, by going to bed at the same time and waking up at the same time every morning. 3. Practice relaxation techniques during the day. 4. Think about something at night that makes you fall asleep. For some people, it could be counting sheep. For others, what they would do if they won the lottery. 5. If everything else fails, go for a sleep study.
Have you tried Chamomile tea? Celestial Seasonings has a tea called Sleepytime.
Over the counter at your local wal-mart or similar store there is a pill called calms forte... works awesome and not addictive... works for me.. use it when i need it.
have a sleep study done, i had one and found out i had sleep apneia...and my problem was similar to yours except i didnt have a problem going to sleep, but just ask your doctor for a referral, dont take no for an answer, and get a sleep study done
I am surprised your doctor has not advised you to seek out the help of a sleep professional at a Sleep Clinic. This is possibly your next step.

In the meantime, try taking a hot bath before bed. Fill the bathtub with hot water (as hot as you can stand it) and mix in a bowl, 1/2 cup of each; baking soda, epsom salts and sea salt. Dump this mix into the bath water. Also add several drops (8-12) of pure lavender essential oil. Soak in the tub for a minimum of 1/2 an hour. You can buy the lavender oil in the health food section of a grocery store. Make sure it's a pure high quality oil.

Examine your diet and try to eliminate all the foods/drinks that may cause sleeplessness. Try drinking a small cup of hot milk before bed. This is an old remedy for inducing sleep and some people swear by it. Good luck with getting to sleep!
