Wow. I understanding the health care bills of the obese population is a lot greater. But, if they are going to police weight, they should be policing other types of behaviors. I would include doing the following: random drug testing, checking if employees are actually wearing seat belts, making sure they go to the dentist 2x/year, making sure they get a physical and cancer screenings that are appropriate for their age group, etc.
AND, all of these things should be done on company time. Good health should be rewarded with days off. It's just like with a little kid, you can punish them to control a bad behavior, or you can reward them when they exhibit a good behavior. The latter is more effective.
So what is being proposed in the article and socialized health care are completely different. Actually socialized medicine would prevent what is being described in the article. The reason that the company is attempting to do that is b/c they are trying to control the cost of healthcare in a free market society.in otherwords capitalism is completely responsible for this proprosal. Now I dont believe that socialized medicine is the answer...its not, at least in this country, but that is b/c I believe that it would decrease the quality of care overall in this country. What we do need is some reform of the healthcare system in this country to prevent things like what is proposed in the article and also to insure as many people in the country as possible. Many have the attitude that they dont care if others have insurance or not but what those people dont realize is that these people use the ER and dont pay and then the ones with insurance are indirectly paying for healthcare through higher costs of their insurance.
