Colonoscopy?
Question:
Thanks!

I agree with the transcriptionist/nurse pretty much. I took 2 days off work for mine and it was plenty. It allowed me to use my cleansing prep and not feel self conscious about whether or not I would make each trip to the restroom successfully or not prior to the procedure, and the day of the procedure to rest after all was said and done. Even if your body says you are able to work, your mind might disagree. I was ready to return to work after 2 days.
Two days will be great, and you might find you just have a freebie day. During the procedure, they will put air into your colon to stretch it out, so expect some side effects from that. They will give you a sedative/hypnotic (most likely Demerol and Versed). You might remember parts of the procedure or nothing at all, and you might be a little nauseated after it's all said and done. I type 5 to 10 of these procedures every day five days a week, and the only reason they don't let someone go home after a standard procedure is if they have to take them back to help expel the gas from the colon. It's probably a good idea to have someone stay with you through the day, just in case, but it's not so bad for something so necessary.
Good luck and get some rest when it's done.
My husband had this procedure. The worst part was the diet and tablets he had to have 2-3 days b4 the procedure.
At the hospital he was put to bed and given a sedative to relax him. Then he had the colonoscopy.
The other patients went back to ward and had a cup of tea and a sandwich before going home.
As my husband lay on the procedural bed the fire alarm went off and he was wheeled into a draughty corridor whilst the building was evacuated. Later he was given a stale biscuit and tepid drink before being discharged! But that is the sort of life he has!
You.ll be fine and two days is plenty. You'll be back to normal the following day.
i have had several. i took a few days before to relax and drink the yucky stuff to empty the bowels. then during procedure i make sure to tell them to knock me out completley. because the first one i ever had they did not give me enough and i was awake for the whole thing..... and i felt it tooo. the afterwards is not too bad... it has ranged from severe pain when they took a lot of biopsies,{again that was the first one}}}} to the last one i had scheduled it for a friday so i would not miss work, and my boss gave me monday as well. because she had seen me suffer before... but i was ok, this ime, and just took it easy, no heavy lifting etc. i finally got to watch oprah!!
You will be sedated and will know nothing about it. Two days is fine. You will be groogy when you get home so get yourself to bed
