Is it just me? or cathter is really painful?

Question:
i've experienced this... people who are in the same room with me in the hospital was disturb due to my shout of pain and horror...

Answers:
yes catheters are uncomfortable but you can help this by breathing. Breathe in slowly while the catheter is being inserted. Breath out and humm when the cathter is being removed. I worked in a hospital and I have had quite a few catheters myself. Trust me this works. You may burn a little and feel like you need to urinate after the cath is inserted. This is normal because there is a foreign object in your urethra. This feeling will go away in a few minutes.
What type of catheter, intrabdominal or urethral?

Either way, it is probably because your attending nurse of surgeon did not put enough anesthesia to counter the pain or irritating effects. THey shoudl have, particularly if it is intrabdominal.

If it is urethral, they should have put more lubricant. If they did so, maybe it is you who may have been in fault.
