Dealing with Workman's Compensation?

Question:
My husband got hurt on the job two years ago. He was covered by Workman's Comp. He was able to go back to work but now, because of his injury awhile ago, he has two disintegrating discs in his back and has to have surgery. We are worried that WC will not cover everything to meet our bills when he goes on disability. Recovery could be lengthy. Also, the question has come up that he might not ever be able to go back to his job. What then? I just have no idea about Workman's Comp. I guess really a lawyer would be best but I am scared! The cost could be alot.

Answers:
In the case of Workman's Compensation an attorney will usually work for 1/3 of any settlement when it is finally reached, so you aren't paying them anything until then. They won't accept cases they don't feel they can't win because of this, but your husband sounds like he has a solid case. So you really should get an attorney involved in this as soon as possible.
The lawyer will get paid by the workmans comp insurance company. They are worth the cost. You will be taken for a ride if you don't get a lawyer.
I think this would be an insurance covered thing and they should have some sort of benefit for him while he recovers. If he is not able to go back to work because of it file for disability with social security. They may even give him temporary disability while he is recuperating. In any event check with your insurance and SSI.
it couldn't hurt to invest in some AFLAC, as well. believe it or not, it really is a good program. My friend was in a car accident and lost alot of money from being off work during his injury. aflac helped keep him out of the poorhouse.
Find a good certified workers compensation attorney. That's what I finally did. You won't pay anything until you settle with the insurance company. Don't trust the insurance company. I found a really good web site.www.workerscompensation.c...
They have wonderful helpful people on there and you can see what your benefits are by state. Best of luck!
