I Got Stung By A Wasp On The Back Of My Upper Arm 2 Days Ago & Its Still Swolen. What Is Wrong?

Question:
I got Stung On About the Tricep Area & The Sweeling Goes All The Way Down To A Little Past My Elbow. Is This Normal? The Part That Is Swolen Is A little Red & Blotchy.. Please help

Answers:
Grace,
Your reaction is totally normal. Wasps sting like hell, and it will take a few days for the swelling to go down. Rub some benadryl lotion on it and that will help some.

If it starts to get nasty stuff coming out of it, then it's infected, and you can either see a doctor, or put triple antibiotic cream on it for a couple days and see how it does.

For the record, I have a small scar on my foot where one of those large red ground wasps stung me 15 years ago. My whole foot swelled up and it hurt for days.

Wasps suck.

You may have part of the stinger stuck inside of your arm.

You also may be allergic to wasps. Allergies don't have to be to the point of someone not being able to breathe to be dangerous.

My advice - take some benedryl (over the counter medicine for allergies) and if it doesn't improve go to the doctor in the morning for him to check it!
It is possible that the wasp's stinger broke off inside of you. It needs to come out. If it was me, I'd get someone to dig it out with a sterile needle, but if that isn't possible, you should see your local health care professional.
Wasp stingers don't usually come off, but I have had it happen to me.
You could be allergic to the Wasp sting. You should take a Benedryl and ice it. I am allergic to Hornets, wasps, and Yellow Jackets and I get that way but my throat swells up and I start to have a hard time breathing. To be on the safe side you should have a doctor look at it to make sure that you are not allergic to the sting. Hornets and wasps and Yellow Jackets can sting continous and they don't lose their stinger like a bee does.
First of all, wasps don't sting, they bite. They leave nothing but venom inside of you. No stinger, no poison sack.

The redness and swelling are normal. If you develop hives, streaking from the wound (http://www.utahmountainbiking.com/firsta... difficulty breathing, or nausea/vomiting, get help.

If it's just redness and pain, that's totally normal.
