How much does it take for sutures to accidentally "rip" open?

Question:
I had foot surgery and they sewed me back up pretty nicely, I saw it, looked pretty standard. They bandaged it back up under about a half inch of gauzy stuff and sent me off. It has been almost a week and I feel like I am ready to be as active as I can be with an immobile foot. But I am afraid I may have taken it too far and the suture area is aching and feeling sore. I am scared that I might have done some damage, or ripped the stitches. Is that possible? is it easy to rip stitches?

Answers:
Don't be dumb. Follow your physicians orders. Every day those stitches stay in the stronger the skin and tissues will get and lessen your chance of ripping them open. Think about it. All that tissue has to knit itself back together and its in an area that has a lot of stress on it with all sorts of movement. The stitches are there to stabilize the tissue. It's not very easy to rip them open, however when you have the stitches taken out if you are too rambunctious you can certainly injury yourself easily. It is too often that people don't take care of themselves in a situation like this and pay for it in the years to come. Be nice to your body.
