Knee sprain?
Question:
Answers:
It might...a sprain beyond a grade I might show some fiber disruption. Grade III and IV are more easily seen (partial and complete tears)...what you are more likely to see with a simple sprain is evidence of swelling.
ADDENDUM: After you describe your injury, it is possible that you may have an injury to the ACL...I'd get it checked out.
yes an MRI is the best way to show a sprain in any joint...
recenly i injured my knee and when i initally went to the DR she said that it was a very minor sprain but gave me an immobolizer and said to limit weightbearing after 48 hours. When i went back for my followup 10 days later she decided that it would be best to send me for an MRI because my knee was still very swollen and painful, the MRI show that i had a tear in my MCL, it has now been 5 weeks and my knee is still swollen and painful I am now being sent to see an orthopedist.
Sometimes with knee injuries when the Dr does the physical exam there is no laxicity in the joint (looseness) which usually determines the severity of the injury, this can be cause by a number of factors including swelling and pain inable the Dr to perform the exam. For this reason an MRI is sometimes the only way that such injuries can be dectected.
Best of luck with your knee injury
Sounds to me like you might have injured one of your tendons. Of course, I'm a journalist, not a doctor.
Good luck with that.
