My left knee pops after I've been sitting or bending it for a while... should I see a doctor?

Question:
It's been happening for a couple of years now. If I'm sitting cross-legged or with my knees close to my chest, when I stand up and straighten it out to walk, something inside my knee, towards the back of it, pops and is very painful for a split second. If I get up and don't straighten it all the way, but limp for a little while (usually only a minute or so) it will stretch out (?) and not do that.

Is this because my knee is weak, or is there a problem inside? What types of exercises can I do to strengthen it?

Answers:
Dear Lisa,

I would recommend a chiropractor first. He/She will take an x-ray to determine the condition of your knee. They will be able to tell you exactly what is wrong.

It might just be a simple misplacement of the joint. It would then take them about 10 seconds to correct it. You might need to see them a few times to keep correcting the problem until your muscles become accustomed to the correct position again.

If they are concerned at all about a bigger problem that a medical doctor needs to be seen for, they will tell you before they treat you. You can then take those x-rays to the doc so your not paying for two.

If it were me, I would see them first! Sometimes doc's can get cut happy. Hope you get better soon!
try glucosamine and chondroitin mixture...cheap in any wal mart vitamin section. dont try exercises unless you get professional advice first...
mine does the same thing...my doc couldnt tell me anything...if it gets too bad now they have really good (fast recovery good results) surgery for it.
no im pretty young im only 15 and my knees pop all tha time..actually to the point where my parents were worried about it and took me to tha doctor..

he said that it was fine juss dont sit like that anymore..

but if urs is painful u shud get it checked it may b an eraly sign of arthritis

personally i dont think that u shud dew any exrecises with ur knee until u kno exactly wats wrong with ur knee i think if u try to dew any exercises with ur knee now without knowin wats exactly wrong u cud most likely make it worse
