Injured on the jobsite?
Question:
i took a day off today, to see a doctor.
what would you do?
Answers:
Call your supervisor now!
Before you go to the doctor, because there is paperwork that needs to be completed so that the doctor will bill Workers' Comp and not you.
You should have reported it immediately, but at the outside by the end of your shift.
This is going to be an OSHA Recordable incident, and your employer needs to know about it because they need to track all of that - it's a federal law that they do so.
And make sure that whatever the doctor tells you to do - that you DO it! I only say this because I've seen where somebody claimed OJI for a back injury and supposedly unable to return to work because of it - but was seen busing tables at a restaurant and the last I heard she was under investigation for fraud. So make sure you follow your doctor's orders to the letter - for your protection as well as your employer's.
ETA: Sometimes you will not be paid a full paycheck while on Workers' Comp - and sometimes there is a 2 or 3 day gap tha you need to be off for that long before your comp kicks in - but that depends on the state. That's just FYI more than anything - so ask your employer what the policies are.
If you're injured on the job you're supposed to report it to your supervisor so they can make a record of it and get you treatment. They should have taken you to the ER for an exam and treatment and followed the doctor's instructions for follow-up care. At this point you probably need to contact your supervisor and make a report and have any witnesses do the same. Ask them what you should do as far as treatment at this point. They may want you to be treated by a company doctor.
Assumming that you are in the US, I suggest that you immediately notify your supervisor that you were injured on the job. That way your employer's workmens compensation insurance underwriter is responsible for your medical expenses and/or lost wages due to the injury.
